Mark Rice hails from a West Virginia steel mill town in the heart of the Appalachian rust belt. His music retains the intimate, communal tone of his childhood home. This singer/songwriter began playing his father’s fifty dollar Sears & Roebuck acoustic guitar, and has been playing folk rock since, for audiences from Nashville to New York City. As an artist, Rice establishes a firm connectedness between himself and the audience through stripped-down vocals and raw, earthy lyrics. He strives to express the challenges of life in a relatable way. Fans enjoy the contemporary sound which recalls artists like David Gray, Denison Whitmer, Damien Rice and Bruce Springsteen (Nebraska, Devils and Dust). Thematically, Rice tackles doubt, faith, transience, mortality, human connection, and spirituality.

With his latest full length release “Topography of a Bird”, Mark hopes to gain some experience and develop as an artist while reaching out to a larger audience by continuing to perform locally and abroad. Letting his light shine brighter every day against the melee of voices seeking to be heard, is his goal, in just a few words.
